    Staff Empowerment and Making a Home

    Thursday, January 26th, 2017 at Brewster Place Topeka, KS

    9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. 7 CEUS for nurses, social workers and adult care home administrators.  Free for any staff member of a Kansas skilled nursing home, funded by a Kansas Health Foundation grant

    Course Objectives

    ·         Empowerment: Creating leaders at every level

    ·         Consistent assignments and scheduling that makes sense

    ·         De-institutionalize the environment and create a home

    ·         Promoting community

    ·         Regulations that support creating home


    Course Description

    In order to be successful with person centered care, communities must have consistent assignments and give care partners the authority to make day to day decisions in providing care. The class will investigate how to de-institutionalize the environment to make a home and empower staff to better ensure happy and healthy residents. Staff Empowerment and Making a Home are two of the domains for the PEAK 2.0 program in Kansas.

    The Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services along with KACE and our partner associations will host a series of regional roundtable meetings for nursing facilities the week of November 14th. The meetings are free of cost to attend and will provide an opportunity to hear from regional survey staff regarding top tags and other agency updates.

    The Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services has announced that Denise German will be the new Director of Nursing Facility Survey and Certification, replacing Audrey Sunderraj when she retires next week.  Denise is currently the Regional Manager for the Kansas City District Office.  We are looking forward to working with Denise and we will share more information about the change as it becomes available.

    Audrey Sunderraj, Director of Nursing Facility Survey and Certification at KDADS, has announced that she will be retiring on September 23, 2016.

    Beginning January 2016, the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) will host a monthly HCBS Provider Forum conference call to discuss program and policy updates.  The first call is scheduled for 10 a.m. through 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 19th.  Please note that, effective January 19th, the call-in information for the HCBS Provide Forum calls will be:  1-866-620-7326  Code 392 624 7469.

     

    All HCBS providers interested in participating in this meeting can register at http://www.kdads.ks.gov/provider-home/home-and-community-based-services-provider-information/provider-forum

     

    Going forward, the HCBS Provider Forum call will occur on the third Tuesday of every month from 10 a.m.-11 a.m.   Additional information regarding the meeting can be found on the Events Calendar under the Provider homepage.

    Dear KanCare Partner,

     

    KDADS still plans to hold the Partner Provider training session on the Medicaid eligibility process tomorrowDecember 29. However, the vendor that Wichita State University contracted with to facilitate this training has not yet provided KDADS with the log in information we need to provide you in order for you to participate. We expect to have this information by 2 p.m. today and will send it out to all of you as soon as we receive it.

    KDADS is requesting public comments and feedback on the HCBS Specific Proposed Program Changes. The comment period will remain open until November 30, 2015.   Comments and feedback can be submitted to KDADS in the following ways:

     

    1.      In writing, by writing a letter to KDADS, 503 S. Kansas Ave, Topeka, KS 66603, Attn: HCBS Programs

    2.      Contact the HCBS Coordinator, Susan Brinker, 785-296-4980

    3.      By email to the HCBS general email box at HCBS-KS@kdads.ks.gov

     

    HCBS specific waiver amendment documents can be found on the KDADS website at the following link:http://kdads.ks.gov/commissions/csp/home-community-based-services-(hcbs)/hcbs-program-renewal-information.   A paper copy of the amendment can be requested by contacting Laura Leistra at the number provided above, via email through the HCBS mailbox or at your local ADRC, CDDO and DCF offices.
