    KDADS Regional Round Tables

KACE will be partnering with KDADS, KHCA/KCAL and LeadingAge Kansas to visit all five survey regions.  Providers will have an opportunity to talk with Audrey Sunderraj and your regional survey manager.  KACE will host the Western Kansas Regional Survey Round Table on October 30, 2013 in Fort Dodge at the Kansas Soldiers Home-Eisenhower Hall Auditorium- from 8 am - Noon. There is NO CHARGE & NO CEs, but this is a good opportunity to have the ear of KDADS in your own local area. To find more information including how to register, go to: Regional Meetings for Nursing Homes with the KDADS Survey Agency.pdf

CMS recently released the quarterly ranking of states and the District of Columbia on the percentage of long-stay nursing home residents receiving antipsychotic medications (higher rankings indicate fewer residents receiving antipsychotics while lower rankings indicate more residents receiving the medications.).  Kansas dropped in the rankings from 47th to 48th with only Illinois, Texas and Louisiana ranking lower.  This makes Kansas the lowest ranked state in CMS region 7.   KACE participates in the Kansas Partnership to Improve Dementia Care in Nursing Homes which is working to reduce the inappropriate use of antipsychotic medication for dementia patients.  The next meeting of the Partnership is scheduled for March 27th.

Registration opened up last week for the Joint Training Seminar for Kansas adult care facility providers and KDADS surveyors.  The seminar will be held on March 31st in Wichita and April 1st in Topeka.  The focus of the seminar is on fall and accident prevention with featured speakers Sue Ann Guildermann and Linda Shell.  Six continuing education clock hours will be available for adult care administrators and operators, pending approval, and CNEs will be available for nurses.  The seminar fee is $75.  The agenda and speaker bios and the online registration link can be found at:

KACE has a number of other educational opportunities available now in addition to “Joint Provider.”  Check out our online Professional Development Calendar for more information on the What You Always Wanted to Know about Nursing Home Regulations, the Tanner-Foster Conference, and more.

As always, if you have questions, concerns or comments please don’t hesitate to contact us at 785-273-4393. – April
