Objectives:

  • To refresh participants’ understanding of the progression of Alzheimer’s Disease and other diseases that involve Dementia
  • To provide participants with the understanding of why it is critical to provide professionally planned and directed activities  for residents with Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia
  • To provide examples of quality activities programming to meet the needs of residents throughout the facility
  • To provide participants with information and resources to keep their residents engaged and maintain their quality of life

Description: The primary focus of the webinar will be on programming and activities found to produce the best results for Alzheimer's and Dementia residents.  The webinar will begin with a brief review of Alzheimer's and Dementia disease progression and a discussion of the importance of professionally planned and directed  activities.  However, the bulk of the webinar will  expand on examples of activities, techniques, and resources to develop activity programs for Alzheimer's and Dementia residents.  The webinar also will provide guidance on different levels of activities programming for the varying needs within facilities.

 

More About the Presenter:

Lisa is nationally certified as an Activity Professional, Activity Consultant, Dementia Practitioner, and she is a Certified Alzheimer’s Disease & Dementia Care Trainer.  She spent her high school years working as a Certified  Nurses Aid and 30 years later returned to her hometown where she accepted the Activity Director position.  She completed several years of training, spent time on committees, and as a volunteer for the state and national activity conferences while becoming certified.  She has held the position of Education Outreach Trustee for the National Association of Activity Professionals since June 2012.  This role requires her to recruit, organize, and lead bi-monthly webinars in areas of interest and continuing education for the membership.  Lisa has become involved with the Kansas Task Force and CMS to help reduce the use of anti-psychotic drugs.  She enjoys working as a consultant for area retirement homes, providing in-services, speaking to communities and educating on Alzheimer’s and the Dementias at a state and national level.  Lisa opened her business, Caring Hands Consulting, LLC in  July, 2012.


Continuing Education Credit Operators and Administrators: This workshop is approved for three continuing education clock hours in the area of resident care. HOC Credentialing Approved Provider number LTS A1427. 


Nurses :  CNE’s will be available for nurses.

 

Attendance Certificates will be available for all other attendees.
