  • This registration will provide the attendee with 6 hours of continuing education credit towards operator, licensed nursing home administrator or nursing licenses. Lunch is also provided for this registration type.
  • This registration will provide the attendee with full access to all conference education sessions but does not provide continuing education credits towards professional licenses.

Opening Session: The Power of Resident Voices: 9:00 - 9:50 - (1 Admin CE)

Morning Breakout Sessions: 10-10:50 & 11-11:50

Each breakout session is designed for any team working on person-centered care (PCC). These sessions are for anyone interested in improving life for elders in your home. The sessions include practical applications that will help you provide person-centered care. Sessions will be engaging, interactive, and include best practices. Long-term care staff from across the organization, CNAs, nurses, housekeepers, dietary staff, and leadership, will gain practical insights on the PCC topics you care about most.


Attendees will be eligible to attend 2 morning breakout sessions. 



Person-Centered Bathing (1 Res Care CE): Speakers: Judy Miller, RN & Jerrie Rieck, CNA/CMA

  • Discussion of person-centered best practices for bathing to support residents in life-long bathing and hygiene patterns.
  • Exploration of alternative bathing options, including demonstrations and examples from an experienced caregiver.
  • Presentation and discussion of case study situations in which bathing alternatives are recommended.


At Your Service - Person-Centered Dining (1 Res Care CE)Speaker: Lisa Schwarz, RDN, LD & Elizabeth Thomas

  • Discussion of best practices for developing resident-driven menus
  • Direction on establishing on-going training and practices for food safety.
  • Exploration of the benefits of using the versatile worker to improve residents’ dining experiences.
  • Practical tips and best practices to move beyond diet restrictions and transition to liberalized diets to support resident-driven goals.


Creating Home (1 Admin CE): Speakers: Migette Kaup, Ph.D., IIDA & Sara Sourk, Administrator

  • Identify features of home that can be translated to the nursing home environment.
  • Discuss strategies for creating and respecting boundaries in resident spaces.
  • Identify key environmental characteristics that create an experience of home.
  • Describe an action plan for making improvements in a nursing home to customize spaces for resident autonomy.


Meaningful Living (1 Res Care CE)Speaker: Krystal Nelson, OTA, SSD

  • Differentiate between activity programs and meaningful living.
  • Identify what meaningful living is for you and how to identify it with residents.
  • Discuss person-centered best practices for creating opportunities for elders to contribute to the home, support spirituality and fostering continued community connections.



Lunch: 12-12:50: Boxed lunch will be provided with several different sandwich options and sides.



Afternoon Breakout Sessions: 1:00-1:50 & 2:00-2:50

Person-Centered Care Planning (1 Res Care CE)Speakers: Eric Wray, BSW, CDP & Kendra Ojwang, LPN, RAC-CT

  • Discuss important ways care planning can support resident decisions, even decisions that pose a potential risk.
  • Provide practical solutions for equipping direct care staff through PCC planning.
  • Identify tools for capturing resident daily routines and choices that support and enhance residents’ quality of life.


Empowering Staff (1 Admin CE): Speakers: Judy Miller, RN & Sandi Hageman, Administrator

  • Illustrate and practice techniques that lead to high organizational involvement.
  • Highlight the importance of consistent staffing to providing person-centered care and growing staff empowerment.
  • Discuss techniques to build self-led teams.
  • Describe a peer hiring process.


Person-Centered Dementia Care (1 Res Care CE): Speakers: Marielizabeth Graham, SSD,LE,CMA, Household Coordinator & Stephanie Gfeller, Admin

  • Household Coordinator & Stephanie Gfeller, Admin.
  • Illustrate fundamental techniques for honoring person-centered care in residents with dementia.
  • Discuss ways to engage family members as partners in providing person-centered care for residents with dementia.
  • Provide practical tips for caregivers in responding to residents with dementia.


Sweet Dreams Over Night Sleep Support (1 Res Care CE): Speakers: Teresa Woods, DON & Jalane White, Administrator

  • Provide practical tool recommendations for assessing residents’ clinical needs at night.
  • Illustrate how assessments and resident preferences drive individualized night care plans instead of using blanket practices such as two-hour rounding.
  • Describe unobtrusive practices for checking in on residents at night.



Closing Session: You Matter: 3:00- 3:50 - (1 Admin CE) 


Speaker: Matt Lloyd, COO at St. John’s on the Lake & Culture Change Pioneer

  • Acknowledge how challenging the pandemic has been for the delivery of person-centered care.
  • Skills to exercise more courage while influencing others with positivity.
  • Approaches for how to develop and model resilience amidst turmoil and avoid burnout

Continuing Education Credit:

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT: A total of 6 continuing education clock hours are approved for this event for adult care home administrators and registered operators by the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (LTS# A1427). This includes 2 (possibly up to 4 - depending on the breakouts selected) hours in the core area of Administration, and 2 (possibly up to 4 - depending on the breakouts selected) hours in the core area of Resident Care. Hutchinson Community College is approved as a provider of continuing education by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. This course offering is approved for 6 contact hours applicable for RN, LPN, or LMHT re-licensure. Kansas State Board of Nursing provider number LT0101-0527.
